1. Slide Rock State Park
One of the most popular swimming spots in Arizona, Slide Rock State Park offers a one-of-a-kind experience with natural waterslides carved into red rock. Expect crowds on weekends and in the summer, but enjoy the unique natural waterpark experience.
Update: Beginning May 1st, 2026, vehicles will no longer be able to line up and wait on Highway 89A after the park’s parking lot reaches capacity. Cars are no longer allowed to wait in the right turn lane as in the past. Under the new policy, when all spots are full, officials will close the parking lot until a substantial number of spots have reopened, on then allowing for more cars to enter.
Oct. - April Per vehicle (1-4 people): $20.00 Additional people: $5.00
*All children under age 6 are free.
Credit card payments strongly preferred. Cash users must have exact change.
2. Grasshopper Point
Grasshopper Point is a local favorite with deep water, shaded canyon walls, and some of the best cliff jumping in Sedona. The water here tends to be calmer and deeper than Slide Rock, making it great for swimming and relaxing.
3. Red Rock Crossing / Crescent Moon Ranch
This is one of the most scenic swimming spots in Sedona, with Cathedral Rock towering above Oak Creek. It offers shallow areas for kids and deeper sections for swimming, making it ideal for families.
4. The Crack at Wet Beaver Creek

5. Midgley Bridge Swimming Area
Just minutes from Uptown Sedona, Midgley Bridge offers easy access to Oak Creek with scenic surroundings and fewer crowds than other popular spots.
6. Halfway Picnic Area
Halfway Picnic Area is a small, picturesque swimming hole tucked into Oak Creek Canyon. It offers shaded access to the water and a more relaxed atmosphere compared to busier locations.
7. Bootlegger Campground Area
Bootlegger offers a quieter creekside experience with clear water, picnic areas, and easy access. It’s a great alternative to more crowded swimming holes nearby.
8. Encinoso Picnic Area
Encinoso is a peaceful, pet-friendly swimming area with picnic tables, grills, and easy creek access. It’s a great choice for a relaxed day away from crowds.

Swimming Hole Tips
- Pack in, pack out: Keep Sedona’s waters clean.
- Arrive early: Most parking lots are small and fill quickly.
- Wear good shoes: Trails can be rocky and slippery near the water.
- Bring sun protection and water: Shade is limited in some areas.
Best Time to Visit Sedona Swimming Holes
Spring (March - April): Cooler air, colder water from snowmelt, fewer crowds, and great conditions for hiking and quick dips. It may be too cold for most people during this time of year to hang out and going swimming, but as we all have experienced, there are some crazy swings in the temperature these days.
Summer (May - August): Peak swimming season with warm water and hot temperatures. Expect crowds at popular spots like Slide Rock and Grasshopper Point. Pro tip: arrive before 9 AM or after 4 PM.
Fall (September - November): Mild weather, fewer crowds, cooler water, and beautiful fall colors in Oak Creek Canyon. It typically gets a bit too cold by in October to go swimming. But again, we've been experiencing swings in temperatures during these shoulder seasons in recent years.
Winter (December - February): Not ideal for swimming unless you're aiming for a cold plunge, but it's still a beautiful time for scenic hikes.
