Sedona to Grand Canyon - Directions and What to Do When You Get There

Just 119 miles separates Sedona and the Grand Canyon South Rim. About 90 minutes from Sedona, you can see some of the world's most awe-inspiring sites on a single Grand Canyon tour. Try a Grand Canyon helicopter tour or Grand Canyon air tour and fly over and through the red rocks of Sedona, AZ then to the largest of the seven natural wonders of the world. Gaze out of the Grand Canyon helicopter or aircraft, awestruck by the grandeur of the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam and even the sparkling lights of Las Vegas. Or explore up close this world-wonder on Grand Canyon river rafting tours, guided Grand Canyon jeep tours, Grand Canyon railway and Grand Canyon bus tours, or guided Grand Canyon hiking. No matter how you see it, you'll never forget it.

Directions to Grand Canyon South Rim from Sedona

From Uptown Sedona, take Highway 89 through Oak Creek Canyon toward Flagstaff.  If you're starting from The Village of Oak Creek (south of Uptown Sedona) take Highway 179 east out to Interstate 17 and then head north toward Flagstaff.  From Flagstaff, there are three ways to get to the Grand Canyon South Rim:

  1. Take I-40 west to Highway 64. Take Highway 64 north directly to the South Rim.
  2. Take Highway 180 west to Highway 64. Take Highway 64 north directly to the South Rim.
  3. Take Highway 89 north to Highway 64. Take Highway 64 west to the East Entrance of the South Rim - known as Desert View.

Directions to Grand Canyon North Rim from Sedona

From Uptown Sedona, take Highway 89 through Oak Creek Canyon toward Flagstaff.  If you're starting from The Village of Oak Creek (south of Uptown Sedona) take Highway 179 east out to Interstate 17 and then head north toward Flagstaff.  At Flagstaff, take Highway 89 North to ALT 89 North to Marble Canyon, take ALT 89 to Jacob Lake, Arizona then take Stateroad 67 South to the North Rim.

Directions to Grand Canyon West (including the Grand Canyon Skywalk) from Sedona

From Uptown Sedona, take Highway 89 through Oak Creek Canyon toward Flagstaff.  If you're starting from The Village of Oak Creek (south of Uptown Sedona) take Highway 179 east out to Interstate 17 and then head north toward Flagstaff.  From Flagstaff, take I-40 west toward Kingman and continue approximately 23 miles.  Turn north on Stockton Hill Road and go 42 miles. Right turn (North) on to Pierce Ferry Road and go 7 miles.  Right turn (East) on to Diamond Bar Road; go 21 miles.  **Diamond Bar Road will end at the only entrance to Grand Canyon West, which is the Grand Canyon West Airport.   Expect dirt roads as you approach Grand Canyon West.  Parking is free. Approximate Travel Time from Phoenix: 5hrs 15mins.  253 miles.  Approximate Travel Time from Flagstaff: 3 hrs 50mins.  216 miles.
