Driving to Sedona from Surrounding Areas

Directions from Phoenix to Sedona

  1. Take I-17 north toward Flagstaff 98.4 miles.  Take exit 298 and turn left onto State Route 179.  Travel on Highway 179 14.2 miles to State Route 89A.  The intersection of Hwy 179 and Hwy 89A is known as the "Y."  Many Sedona attractions, shopping, lodging and other business refer to the "Y" as a point of reference.

Directions from Flagstaff to Sedona (there are two ways you can get to Sedona from Flagstaff)

  1. If it is snowing, take Interstate 17 south from Flagstaff about 41 miles to State Highway 179. From there, go about 15 miles north on Highway 179 and you will enter Sedona. This route takes about an hour from Flagstaff to Sedona.
  2. If the weather is good, begin taking Interstate 17 south from Flagstaff. Just 2 miles south of the junction of Interstate 40 and 17, exit at US highway 89A (exit 337). This takes you on a breathtaking 25 mile drive through Oak Creek Canyon. This route through Oak Creek Canyon takes about 40 minutes from Flagstaff to Sedona.

Directions from Grand Canyon South Rim to Sedona

  1. Take Highway 64 south to I-40 east.  Take I-40 East to Flagstaff. Take Interstate 17 south from Flagstaff to either a) the exit #337 through to Sedona via Oak Creek Canyon or b) to Hwy 179 to Sedona (see above directions from Flagstaff.)
Directions from Las Vegas, NV to Sedona
  1. Take Highway 93 south to I-40. Take I-40 east to Flagstaff.  Take Interstate 17 south from Flagstaff to either a) the exit #337 through to Sedona via Oak Creek Canyon or b) to Hwy 179 to Sedona (see above directions from Flagstaff.)
Directions from Los Angeles, CA to Sedona
  1. Take I-10 East to Phoenix.  Take I-17 north toward Flagstaff 98.4 miles.  Take exit 298 and turn left onto State Route 179.  Travel on Highway 179 14.2 miles to State Route 89A. 
Directions from Salt Lake City, UT to Sedona (there are two ways to get to Sedona from Utah)
  1. Take I-15 South to Las Vegas, NV.  Take Highway 93 south to I-40. Take I-40 east to Flagstaff.  Take Interstate 17 south from Flagstaff to either a) the exit #337 through to Sedona via Oak Creek Canyon or b) to Hwy 179 to Sedona (see above directions from Flagstaff.)
  2. Alternately, you can take I-15 South to St. George.  Take Hwy 9 toward Zion National Park and then take US 89 South through Kanab, Page/Lake Powell/Glen Canyon Dam, continuing south on 89 to Flagstaff.  From there, follow the directions from Flagstaff to Sedona.
