When is the best time of year to visit Sedona?
Sedona is a beautiful destination year-round. The most popular seasons are mid-February through June and September through December. Lodging rates are slightly lower in July and August, but the most economical prices of year are available from the first week of January to mid-February.
What can I expect in terms of weather?
Sedona, again, is beautiful no matter what time of year you visit. In the winter months, daytime temperatures are around 55 - 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow generally falls around the top of the Mogollon Rim, dusting the famous red rocks with a lovely layer of white, but rarely falls and sticks to roads and sidewalks down in the city of Sedona. In spring and fall, daytime temperatures hover around 75 - 85 degrees Fahrenheit with plenty of sunshine - it's no wonder these seasons are the most popular for Sedona visitors. Summer temperatures reach a warm 90 - 100 degrees, but Sedona's summer weather is still pleasant enough to make it a popular getaway for the residents of much-warmer Phoenix. It's also comfortable enough to make it worthwhile to take advantage of some lower lodging rates! Need more details? Please see our article entitled

What should I pack based on Sedona's weather at different times of the year?
In short, Sedona Arizona's weather is mild and comfortable year round. No matter what time of year you plan to visit, you'll want to pack light layers like long pants and shorts, long and short-sleeved t-shirts, light sweaters and jackets. For footwear, year-round you'll want to pack a pair of close-toed shoes like athletic shoes or hiking boots; close-toed shoes are a best-bet for any Sedona outdoor activities like tours, hiking or horseback riding. In the summertime, you can leave the lightweight jacket at home but add a pair of sandals to your footwear plan. And in the winter, you may want to add a sweatshirt, fleece pullover or moderate-weight sweater to your other layers. Please see our article entitled

Many include easy to advanced hiking in order to reach the best viewpoints, but several can be viewed from a parking lot or on the side of the road (be careful parking roadside...traffic in Sedona can be very heavy.)

What is the traffic and parking like in Sedona? What is the Red Rock Pass?
Sedona is surrounded by lots of National Forest Service land, so if you want to hike, picnic or just get up close and personal with the red rocks, you will likely need to purchase a Red Rock Pass for parking and access. Red Rock Passes are $5 per day, $15 per week or $20 per year
and are available at Sedona's visitor centers, trailheads and many businesses and hotels in town. If you're looking for parking in Uptown Sedona, you may be lucky enough to find a spot along Hwy 89A along the storefronts, but your best bet is the free parking lot behind the
Sedona Chamber of Commerce (331 Forest Road at Hwy 89A) or in the two-level lot behind Sinagua Plaza (270 N 89A) - both located in Uptown Sedona.
As to traffic, the stretch of Hwy 179 between the Village of Oak Creek and Sedona can get very congested, especially in Sedona's high season. The curvy, two-lane road is the main artery between the two popular areas and requires a moderate speed, even when it's not crowded. The good news is, the slower pace gives the driver and passengers opportunities to see the fantastic scenery as it unfolds around you. Likewise, the portion of Hwy 89A in Uptown Sedona can be packed with cars and pedestrians, so take it easy...try to park as suggested above and get out on foot to walk along the storefronts and take in the views of Oak Creek and the towering red rocks.
